For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. Titus 2:11-14
Some problems are solved easily enough, like what are we having for dinner. Other problems are deep, and require deep solutions. Our problem with sin is deep, because it includes the depths of our hearts. The good news of Jesus as your Savior is that He provides a solution deeper than your problem. Titus 2:12 might sound a bit too shallow or simplistic: instructions to not do these things (ungodliness and worldly desires) and instead do these things (sensible, righteous, and godly). But instruction, even godly instruction, is not enough, which is why Jesus went the full distance in verse 14. He redeemed or purchased our freedom from the slavery of every lawless, sinful thing we have ever done. Even more, He goes to the heart of our problem and purifies us. Now we have a zeal for doing good deeds!
How did all of this come about? Because Jesus gave Himself for us. Again, He didn’t delegate this. He didn’t throw some money at the problem. He sacrificed Himself to death so that we might have eternal life. Learning the deep salvation that Jesus gives is how you trust Him with your cares.
A Prayer: Father, no problem in my life is too big or too small for you. To every care, Jesus is my Savior! Teach me more of who He is. Give me strength to walk joyfully with my Savior through whatever trials may come today!
