Advent, Day 10 – Jesus is our Great One

“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O Lord, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.” 2 Chronicles 29:11-12

What is it that makes someone or something great? Is it opportunity? Hard work? Internal character? From where does greatness come?

King David had much experience with greatness. Think of the great victory over Goliath; the great forgiveness of his sins; the many songs he wrote in praise of God. As David comes to the end of his life, his prayer in 2 Chronicles 29 reveals the source of greatness: from God. God is the source of greatness because He is great.

Getting back to Christmas, Jesus is promised that He will be great. Would that put pressure on Him? No, He will be great, because He is God, who is great. As you learn His greatness, you trust Him with your cares.

A Prayer: Father, You are great and awesome! All of who we are is in Your hand, so that You can make us strong and great. Let us today lean on Your great wisdom and strength, instead of on our own.
