Advent, Day 11 – Jesus is our Great One

‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You, who shows lovingkindness to thousands, but repays the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God. The Lord of hosts is His name; great in counsel and mighty in deed …’ Jeremiah 32:17-19a

Have you ever faced a task or project that you thought didn’t make sense? Or maybe was impossible? Jeremiah prays these words in chapter 32 because he just obeyed God in buying a field. But Jeremiah isn’t living in normal times. Babylon has invaded and conquered much of the land. Jerusalem is besieged. Death and captivity loom. What good does it do to buy land?

To make sense of this, Jeremiah turns to God and focuses on His greatness. He has great power, great love, great wisdom. He has a plan, even in this small act of buying land.

Life might seem anything but normal right now for you, but God is still great! He knows what He is doing. Jesus is Great to protect you, forgive you, and strengthen you. We never need fear the results of trusting in Jesus!

A Prayer: Father, this has not been a normal year. Nail firmly into our hearts and minds how great You are so that we always trust in You. May we bring before You today our cares, confusions, and challenges, acknowledging Jesus as our great one!
