Advent, Day 6 – Jesus is our Savior

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”— in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:13-14

I had some point of friction with my wife this week. I was prepared to argue the case that she was the first one at fault. My God had other plans, reminding me of how gracious is His salvation of my own sin.

Jesus, the most blessed Son of God, became a curse for you and me to redeem or buy our salvation! I’m stunned by this, and yet I realize that there’s more to this truth as Paul continues in Galatians 3. Because Jesus was cursed in my place, I receive the blessing of God’s grace just like Abraham did! Abraham did nothing special or particular to cause God to bless him; rather, God out of His grace chose to bless Abraham. And now in Jesus Christ, my Savior, God has chosen to bless you and me out of His grace.

But there’s even more to this truth! We now receive the promise of new life through the Holy Spirit indwelling in us. Not because we have obeyed or performed well. But because we believe in Jesus Christ. I’m the one who sinned, yet Jesus is the one who suffers so that I receive the full benefits of this salvation!

A Prayer: Father, what an amazing gift is this salvation. Thank You! As You have saved me by grace through faith, would You use me today to tell others how they can also be saved by grace through faith? Excite our hearts to tell others that Jesus is our Savior.
