Advent, Day 8 – Jesus is our Great One

When Israel saw the great power which the LORD has used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses. Exodus 14:31

As a child, I was fearful of getting onto a boat and drowning. Being far from land (or the end of the pool) seemed a dangerous possibility. But I don’t think anything like this fear entered into the mind of Pharaoh and his army as they pursued the people of Israel into the Red Sea. Where God made dry ground appear, now the waves returned and covered, drowning the entire army at once.

And what was Israel’s response? That was neat; can you do it again? No, they praised the greatness of God. They realized they had seen the great power of the LORD (Exodus 14:31). The greatest army in the world was no match for the greatness of God’s excellence (Exodus 15:7).

God reveals His greatness in how He protects His people. Likewise, Jesus, because He also is great, protects His people. Dangerous situations will come, but Jesus is our Great One. He will protect and care for you!

A Prayer: Father, even though Israel would forget your great power at the Red Sea, I do not want to forget. Remind me of your great power in Scripture and in my life. When I am tempted to be afraid today, cause me to fix my eyes on Jesus, my Savior and Protector.
