Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. Psalm 51:1
Confessing sin is never easy. It’s humbling. Interestingly, confession is one scenario where the greatness of God is frequently mentioned. Take David for example in Psalm 51:1. He has committed the sins of lying, adultery and murder. His confession depends on God’s lovingkindness and His great compassion.
So also Moses in Numbers 14:19, “Pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness…”
Nehemiah in Nehemiah 9:31, “in Your great compassion, You did not make an end of them or forsake them.”
And Daniel in Daniel 9:4, “I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed, ‘Alas, O Lord the great and awesome God …’”
We can easily associate the greatness of Jesus with acts of power. But I am so thankful that He is also great in forgiving our sins.
A Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You are great in love and compassion to forgive us of our sins. Enable us to be quick to confess our sins and seek forgiveness so that nothing keeps us from being close to You today!
