Advent, Day 24 – Jesus is our King

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

I was a captain of my high school basketball team, which sounds important. Except I really had no power or authority. I still had to follow the directions of the coach. I still had to respect the decisions of the referees.

When Jesus speaks of His having all authority, that is not merely words that sound good. This is truth! He is King over all, and no one or no thing is outside of His rule.

Talking to people about Jesus can be difficult or intimidating. But we are to go ahead with boldness and courage, because our King has commissioned us to do this. Even more, our King is personally with us in a very much needed support role. His power and His presence are necessary for each of us to go and make disciples.

A Prayer: Jesus, I confess that I have offered too many excuses for not going and making disciples. But, I come to You and seek Your grace, courage, and help to do what You have chosen me to do this very day.
