Take Time To Be Holy. Speak often with your Lord.
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him you will be.
Your friends in your conduct His likeness will see.
Take time to be Holy. Let Jesus be your guide.
Are you familiar with that 1892 hymn?
I like the hymn for the reminder that it does indeed take time to be holy. Holiness doesn’t simply happen by accident or by magic; it requires spending time alone with Jesus, feeding on His Word, and seeking Him in prayer. Are you taking time to be holy? Are you making time to be alone with Jesus?
The motivation and ability to take time to be holy come from Jesus. So, if you are stuck, struggling, or swamped with life, take time to pray. Ask Jesus for His gracious help to spend time with Him. Realize you can’t accomplish this on your own. All of the triune God is available to assist you to take time to be holy!
But on a human level, it does come down to you. I cannot make you holy, nor can any family, friends, church, or circumstances. I cannot take time for you to be holy. The best that I can do for you is first, make sure that I myself am taking time to be holy. And then second, out of my own relationship with Christ, encourage you to do the same. But you must take time to be holy.
Our country is dramatically revealing the need holy men and women. Godly men and women. Men and women who have spent time with Jesus. Is that you? Are you taking time to be holy?
Take time to be holy.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.
