Jesus loves you! Yes, it’s true! It’s such a personal love that He has for each believer. The more I understand how much He loves me, my heart is filled with love for Him. Plus, a burning desire to tell other people about Him. Which is why writing this for you is a joy for me. I have two verses to share with you, and I am just amazed and thrilled with these truths.
Our first verse is Hebrews 7:25, “Therefore, He [Jesus] is able also to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
So, we have that word intercession. What does it mean? It’s like a representative, where Jesus comes into the heavenly court and represents your needs and troubles before God the Father. More specifically, Hebrews 7:25 says this is connected to our salvation (He is able also to save to the uttermost), so that what Jesus is especially asking is that God the Father would give you all that you need to grow as a Christian.
When Jesus makes intercession for you, it’s a personal action on your behalf. Jesus does this for all believer, but He does this for each believer individually. Think of that! Jesus is representing you before God the Father for you to receive the full blessings of your salvation!!
A final thought here is on the word ‘uttermost,’ which mean completeness, or exhaustive wholeness. Jesus intercedes for you because He knows you to the uttermost, saves you to the uttermost, and loves you to the uttermost!
There’s more good stuff found in our second verse, 1 John 2:1, “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
So, what is an advocate? It is someone who speaks stands with us and speaks up on our behalf. You might find this in work situations, where a boss is considering firing a fellow employee. You speak up and make a case for why that fellow employee should be retained. Jesus is doing this for you when you sin before God the Father!
As part of being your advocate, Jesus is not only with you, supporting you. He shares in your experience. Because He is the righteous, He is perfectly suited to come before God the Father on your behalf.
No matter what your sin or when you sin, Jesus is there to encourage you not to give up. He is there on your behalf to ensure that God’s grace to you is greater than your sin. Jesus will never give up on you!
What is the most impactful part of this study that you want to keep with you this week?
My answer is that I’m amazed and impacted by His personal love for me, individually. He is interceding for me! He is an advocate for me! As I consider His loving actions on my behalf, it fills my heart with love for Him!
