Advent, Day 3 – Jesus is our Savior

“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:21-23

What I’m about to say is simple, but astounds and amazes me: God Himself came to save you from your sins. Wow! He didn’t delegate it. He didn’t sent a Bible verse or an angel or a prophet or even an online video. God Himself took on human flesh. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us.

Why is God with us? To show off His superpowers? To do amazing miracles? To have some fun? Jesus, Immanuel, is with us to save His people from their sins.

So what are our sins? Are these idiosyncracies? Small mistakes? Accidents because of forgetfulness? Our sins are our rebellion against God. Even though our sin is a personal attack on God, Jesus comes to save us from these very sins. We had separated ourselves from fellowship with God, but Jesus personally comes to rescue and restore each of us to walk with God, now and forever. Because we have such a Savior as Jesus, we can trust Him with all of our sins and cares.

A prayer: Father, I know that I have sinned against you, and done what is evil in your sight. I deserve your wrath, but Jesus has saved me. Thank you for this salvation; that I have life because Jesus has died and been raised again for me!
