My good friend, John, was a fairly quiet man. Except when it came to fixing things. Then, he would talk to himself through the entire project. I asked him why one time. John said it kept him alert so that he made less mistakes.
By listening to John, I knew what he was thinking, what was happening, and how I could help. What about when you listen to God’s Word? Proverbs 6:22 gives us 3 benefits from paying attention to God’s Word.
When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.
Proverbs 6:22
First, God’s Word will constantly guide you. This is the idea of leading you in the right path. Life has lots of choices, and the future results aren’t always clear. But God’s Word is a lamp and a light to guide in the way you should go.
Next, God’s Word will constantly protect you. I’ve slept through earthquakes, kids screaming, and gunshots. When you’re sound asleep, you’re very vulnerable and defenseless. But even then, God’s Word is guarding you – and also does it when you’re awake.
Finally, God’s Word will constantly talk to you. This is not chit chat or filler, but an ongoing stream of truth, wisdom, and analysis.
God’s Word is living and active. As we listen with humble hearts, we will be impacted and transformed. Make time today to read the Bible, and read thoughtfully. Let God’s Word guide you, guard you, and speak to you.
