The Fearful Appearance of Jesus
Revelation 1:7 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last,
Story by Hannah Ross: John hasn’t seen Jesus in something like sixty years. For Christmas, my aunt who lives in Florida came to visit and my first reaction was to hug her. But John’s first reaction is to fall at Jesus’ feet as if dead. Why? Because Jesus isn’t John’s aunt – or even uncle. Jesus is Lord and Savior. Also, Jesus’ appearance is terrifying, as described in v. 12-16. Jesus is God in all of His holiness, judgment, strength, and glory! What terrifies me the most is the sharp two-edged sword that comes out of Jesus’ mouth! But Jesus isn’t there to judge John, and gives him both a touch and words of assurance. Instead, Jesus, who has the power of life and death, has a message for John to write to seven churches. John had spent three years with Jesus, seeing Him as a humble servant, but here is Jesus in His full glory; this is awesome!
My Prayer Response: Father, how awesome is my Lord; beyond my fullest comprehension. Absolutely terrifying in His holiness and glory. And yet, in Your grace, Jesus is my merciful Savior my tender Shepherd, who is always interceding for me in Your presence! How can this be, that I should gain such grace and salvation at His death? Thank You! Let me live in awe of Jesus, ready to obey His Word!
May you know more about your awesome Savior today!
