Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Psalm 24:7-8
When I think of Jesus as our King, I often picture Him sitting down. On His throne. While it’s a majestic picture, it’s also not an active picture. True, Jesus does hear and respond to our requests. But He does a lot more for us than just sit.
These verses portray a victory parade, as a warrior king returns from battle. He’s not on his throne at all; he’s not even in his palace. He’s been out, conquering enemies.
We started this advent talking about learning who Jesus is so that we trust Him with our cares. If Jesus is your King, how does He respond to your enemies? Yes, He listens and He gives counsel. But He also acts! He is your King, strong and mighty!
A Prayer: Jesus, we worship You for being our conquering King. You go ahead of us and win the battles! Remind us to turn our challenges and enemies over to You, instead of trying to fight them ourselves.
