Unchanging Truth in Changing Times

School last year was quite stressful for my wife and myself with our four kids. Since my wife also worked at the elementary school, we had five different school schedules, but even these changed based on what day of the week it was. Yep, we did forget to pick up a daughter from school once – and almost forgot many times!

As human beings, we thrive in consistency, routines, stability. Even with many changes, we naturally tend to learn habits to give us some security? Why is this? Because we were made in the image of a God who is faithful, consistent, trustworthy, stable.

In verses 89 to 96 of Psalm 119, the Psalmist reflects on the stability of God and His Word.

Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations; You established the earth, and it stands.”

Psalm 119:89-90

Even when change comes to the author – seasons of life, enemies, emotions – God’s Word remains fixed and unchanging. This stability in the midst of change gives delight and life:

“If Your law had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have revived me.”

Psalm 119:92-93

Even the very best of human perfection has limits, but God’s Word is unlimited in its perfection:

“I have seen a limit to all perfection; Your commandment is exceedingly broad.”

Psalm 119:96

When everything around you seems to change and give way … when the very best seems to diminish … when time and age continue their unrelenting progress … take your stand on Jesus Christ. Let Him and His Word be your solid rock. He is never changed; never moved. Trust in Him at all times!
