Do Not Be Afraid Any Longer
Acts 18:9-11 And the Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
Story: I don’t associate fear with Paul, and yet he is ready to leave Corinth out of fear! It was known as an exceedingly sinful city, entrenched in both immorality and idolatry. And so while some were believing in Jesus (v. 8), Paul was ready to move on before persecution started.. Jesus’ words to Paul give command (do not be afraid; keep on speaking), assurance (I am with you; no one will harm you), and result (I have many who are my people). As Paul stays another 18 months, maybe it’s better to say that Paul was more obedient than he was fearless. He had his moments of fear, but more motivating was his love for and obedience to Jesus.
My Prayer Response: Father, I want this kind of message, especially the promise of successful results. Thank You that You will not let our fears stop Your work. Give me a heart that loves You more than fears what people may do and/or respond. Open my eyes to see the harvest field, the opportunity – rather than possible threats. Use me for the salvation of others – soon or later.
May you keep on speaking about your Lord Jesus!
