No Fear in Doing the Lord’s Work
1 Corinthians 16:10 Now if Timothy comes, see that he is with you without cause to be afraid, for he is doing the Lord’s work, as I also am.
Story: That this verse needs to be said at all is intriguing. Paul will let churches know in his letters about different people coming to visit (see Eph 6:21-22, Col 4:7-9, and Titus 3:12). But this is the only time fear is involved. Why was Paul concerned about Timothy being afraid? Because of the church’s opposition to Paul? Because Timothy was young? As people come to our church on Sunday morning or Wednesday night, do we put them at ease? Do we welcome them and make them feel as if they belong? The key truth for Paul is that Timothy is doing the Lord’s work. Ultimately, it is Jesus who removes fear, unifies people, and enables His work to continue.
My Prayer Response: Father, thank You for this verse! Your Word does speak to every issue in life. May Your people be welcoming and loving, especially to guests who may have fear in their first time visit. Let us work together in Your work, especially so that others may come to believe in Jesus for salvation.
May you welcome and encourage those doing the Lord’s work.
